She was admired and desired, but he did not touch her.  Such was their relationship.  Everyone else wanted to touch her, to consume her.  However, despite the fact that he owned her, and, despite the fact that he desired her much more than anyone else living, still he left her alone.

Throughout his life he took others and took them often but still ignored her, even though he had promised that she was his prize possession and her time would could.

It just never did.

Her life was alone and lonely.  The others came and went.  She remained, standing alone.  He had infatuations with others but she was the only one who remained.  She stood firm, in isolation.

Years

Patience is an art.  She had waited, standing beautiful for him – his prize, for years.  She had never let him down because she had never had the chance to let him down.

She had never been given the chance.  She just stood standing proud – proud and expectant.

Waiting for the day.

Years of waiting.  What does that do to your pride, your confidence, your self-esteem?

If you are the chosen one, then why aren’t you chosen?

She had seen younger ones come and younger ones go.  She had spent her life in expectancy, always being noticed but never partaking.  Always on the outside, gathering dust.

Eve

At last, she was fulfilling her destiny, her role in life.  She was selected, chosen – the one that was always coveted but left alone.

It was judgement day.

He had won her in an auction 25 years ago.  He was the highest bidder, because he had wanted her the most.  And, in 25 years he had kept her lovingly but never touched her.

He had waited, he had waited years for a special occasion. This year had not been special, it had been horrible.

He always thought he would turn to her in times of triumph or of celebration.

But he did not.

It was just the end of a horrible year.

So, he touched her at last, not with the company he had always imagined.  He touched her alone.

She was the bottle of wine he had kept for so long.

He drunk her alone.  Alone with just the two of them.  As it should be.  As it should always have been.

It was the end of the year – the year of isolation.

It was also the year of the quiz.

Zooming Marvellous

This quiz has only one question - it is a multiple-choice question.  Ready.  Fingers on buzzers.
